Art For the Restless

Fernweh

The literal translation of Fernweh is "farsickness,” often described as a longing for distant places and for travel. It is the opposite of homesickness. The art I create is made for those who long for exploration and adventure inspired by travels, recreating my favorite places, whether at home in Boise, a national park, or an international adventure. The use and manipulation of texture and the intentional use of the colors can be seen in many pieces. I hope to share my desire to stay in nature and always experience beautiful and new places.

About the Artist

My name is Karin Yahr, and I have been passionate about art since childhood, participating in art programs throughout High School and College, earning a degree in Visual Communication.   I eventually went back to school to earn a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology because of my passion for helping others. I have used art as a source of therapy throughout my career. I own an art business called Fernweh Art Studio, where I provide art classes and create and sell my art. I feel that art is a wonderful form of communicating heart and soul and a way to process and explore personal experiences.

I am based in Idaho, finding my Zen through hiking, running, traveling, and exploring. My artwork is inspired by my mindful wandering, taking mental snapshots of the world that surrounds me, and conveying what is beyond the obvious through the use of color, line, and texture. I hope viewers can draw escapes from their realities and find moments of peace as I did in creating each piece.
